Israel Laguer is currently a master’s candidate in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at Indiana University. Israel has served his collegiate and local community through working for the Residential Programs and Services department, involving himself with the development of students by serving as a judicial officer for the Dean of Students office, sitting in on various committees, advising several student groups/organizations, and teaching courses focused on the leadership development of students and the historical analysis of historically Black Greek lettered organizations. Israel anticipates the acceptance of a Master of Science degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs in December of 2007, by which time he also anticipates to continue his commitment to students, particularly minority students, at the collegiate level. Israel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Leadership Studies in 2005. Israel is a descendant of two native Puerto Rican parents. He was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey in a dual parent household along with his 6 siblings. Although Israel was surrounded by the realities of living in one of the most dangerous cities in America, he focused on the positive his city and his respective community had to offer. Having involved himself in community youth-groups, outreach programs, and college-bound programs, Israel felt compelled to seek a college degree and represent his family, his community, and himself in the best light possible.
